  • Phillip Clayton
    Phillip Clayton Chef Owner

Born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Chef Owner Phillip Clayton grew up with a rich culinary background of gardening, cooking, and preserving foods in the traditions of Western North Carolina.

Phillip’s upbringing, travels, and a few early restaurant jobs inspired him to attend culinary school as the next step on his journey to becoming a chef. His first visit to the agriculturally rich Champlain Valley drew him immediately to the area, where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Management, and an Associates degree in culinary arts at the New England Culinary Institute.

Phillip honed his culinary technique and knowledge of local agriculture while working as the sous chef at celebrated Vermont restaurants Trattoria Delia and Hen of the Wood. He then went on to open the Farmhouse Tap & Grill, El Cortijo Taqueria, Guild Tavern, and Pascolo Ristorante as the Executive Chef and Partner of The Farmhouse Group.

As the Chef Owner of Guild Tavern, Phillip focuses on bringing the best of Vermont’s Farms to our guests each night. His goal goal is to keep the food simple and honest, let each wonderful local product shine, and provide an unmatched guest experience.
